I read your promo email about the forum and immediately thought to myself that a blog module should be your next undertaking. I would love to have a good WHMCS blog module, and unfortunately there are none (good that is) presently.
Just be sure that blog posts feature a by line so one can set up google attribution properly, and have a comment/trackback system, rss and such and it should be fine. Category/Tag support as you've already mentioned I guess is good too. I would love to purchase such a module. In fact I'm working on building a new brand and have invested into custom theme development for a WordPress + WHMCS setup, but all I really need is a blog, so WordPress is way overkill.
I may just scrap the idea if you're definitely putting a blog module together. Any rough ETA?
I'll be purchasing the forum module shortly as it's also an excellent idea.

Yes its definatley on the card, however a due date is a litle difficult at this early stage, i would say maybe for the summer, but dont quote me on that as requests/needs can vary greatly day to day.
Never thought about comments and trackbacks.
Would a builtin comment system be preferencial to everybody or something like disqus comments?
We just bought the nice forum module and we are very intrerested in a blog module and if the following features are included, it would definately put wordpress out as an option:
TinyMCE functionality in post editor
Autosave post function
Support for tags and categories for posts
Files and media handling options
Timed publishing of posts
Mobile publishing option via webbrowser
Clean urls to individual posts
Multiple writers with different permissions
Interoperability via XML-RPC
Automatic post updates to facebook, twitter, google plus, linkedin
Support for pingback and trackback built in
Support for RSS including for categories and tags
Comment section or support for discus or similar comment plattforms
Comment notification via email
